“Hi, how are you?” is how I’ve started every interaction with a stranger while I’ve been in South Africa. I was taught early on that it’s impolite to not ask how you are, so you always lead with that, otherwise you won’t get anywhere. Who knew. It seems to be similar to the English “You…
